Anglian Water – New Reservoir Project

Grantham Temporary Car Park

Project Overview

A surfacing project was carried out off Church Lane, Grantham, to construct a new temporary car park to support ongoing works for a new reservoir development.

The works required careful planning to meet a tight programme while maintaining a high-quality finish. A Vögele Super 1800-5X paver was deployed to ensure consistent paving performance and to minimise the risk of sinkage within the newly prepared granular base.

Project Details

  • Location: Grantham

  • Client: WN Surfacing

  • Area Paved: 5,000m²

  • Programme: 4 days

  • Machine: Vögele Super 1800-5X TP2

  • Material: AC10 Asphalt

The Challenge

Despite no access restrictions or traffic management requirements, the project was driven by a strict programme, requiring efficient coordination and consistent productivity across the site.

Working on a newly prepared granular base also introduced potential ground stability concerns, meaning the operation needed to be carefully managed to avoid any risk of displacement or uneven settlement during paving.

The Solution

A tracked paver was selected for its ability to maintain traction across potentially soft or unstable areas. This reduced the risk of the machine becoming stuck and ensured a steady, controlled paving process.

The Vögele Super 1800-5X TP2 delivered consistent material flow and compaction, helping maintain surface uniformity while meeting the project’s time constraints.

The Results

The surfacing works were successfully completed within the planned four-day programme.

The finished surface provided a smooth, durable temporary car park, ready to support site operations for the wider reservoir development.
