On a cold, slightly rainy day in Leeds, the AP Pavers team were on site, tasked with resurfacing a stretch of road on hire to Leeds County Council. The section of road had clearly seen better days, and with 50-80mm of SMA being laid, the project was focused on delivering a smooth, durable surface that would serve the community for years to come.
Despite the chill and light rain, the team’s energy remained high. Groundworkers moved efficiently across the site, coordinating deliveries, guiding machinery, and ensuring safety at every stage. The smooth operation highlighted exactly why AP Pavers are trusted by councils across the region.
One of the standout moments of the day was speaking with Saphire, one of the tarmackers on the job. She explained that she chose this line of work because she didn’t want to sit in an office all day, she thrives on being outdoors, hands-on, and part of a team that creates visible results. Saphire shared her insights on the precision and care required to lay SMA and spoke passionately about the importance of teamwork and pride in every job.
“Conditions aren’t always perfect,” she said, “but when everyone works together, you see real progress.” Her story was a reminder of the talented women shaping the industry and the dedication each team member brings to a project.
Throughout the day, machinery like planers and tippers moved in sync with the crew, lifting old surfaces and laying new SMA with efficiency. Every stage of the job, from preparation to laying, rolling, and finishing, reflected AP Pavers’ commitment to quality and precision.
The road, once worn and uneven, was now set for a long-lasting finish, ready to meet the demands of daily traffic.
