Job Story - Beechwood Crescent, Leeds

AP Pavers have recently completed a resurfacing project with our new VOGELE 1800-3i SprayJet on a busy section of road in Burley, Leeds. The works were completed on behalf of Leeds City Council as part of a long-term project within the city.

AP Pavers worked closely with Leeds City Council project management team and decided that the best machine for the job would be the VOGELE 1800-3i SprayJet. As a result of the input from ourselves, it was determined that 50mm of SMA wearing course would be laid, and using the hot bitumen spray Colbond 50 to seal the surface and bond the surface course to the planed out original surface.

Beechwood Crescent is a busy residential road, located on the outskirts of Leeds. Due to the nature of the area, with many so houses sited close to the road, the only solution was to use the VOGELE 1800-3i SprayJet. Due to the close proximity of dwellings to the site, it was important that contamination was kept to a minimum. Too often the road is bond-coated in its entirety by the tar tanker before commencement of paving. This exposes the surface to all and sundry to drive and walk across which in turn transfers the bond coat everywhere else. This contamination generally results in damage claims, which are totally avoidable by using the VOGELE 1800-3i SprayJet.

50mm surface course was planed out on Beechwood Crescent; following this AP's SprayJet was used to lay a 50mm SMA wearing course. The VOGELE 1800-3i SprayJet paver has an integrated bond coat tank and spray bar system that removes the need to have a separate tanker on site. The SprayJet gives a much more accurate and uniform application, and the low pressure ensures that spray mist is kept to a minimum - absolutely essential due to Beechwood Crescent being surrounding by so many houses.

The use of a tanker on site would of potentially caused many problems. There was a strong possibility of the wind catching hold of the tack coat; and it would have been exceptionally easy for the area to become messy, something totally avoidable when using a SprayJet.

AP Pavers worked closely with our client to bring an innovative solution that would deliver the greatest value for money, using the most modern surfacing equipment that is currently available. There is only one other VOGELE 1800-3i SprayJet in the country, and as the UK's leading paver hire specialist it is of paramount important to us that we supply the best quality machines possible in order to exceed our customers expectations time and time again.

We must commend Leeds City Council highways department for embracing this new SprayJet technology, and appreciating all of the advantages associated with the process. We are sure that this will give their road network a much longer and more successful lifespan.
